Hello Readers,

This blog is the part of my classroom thinking activity. In this blog I would like to talk about the short film “An Astrologer’s Day” and the short story R.K.Narayan’s “An Astrologer’s Day”.
First of all , I would like to talk about the short story "An Astrologer's Day" by R. K. Narayan.
The short story "An Astrologer's Day" is a very interesting story . An Astrologer's Day is a thriller, suspense short story by author R. K. Narayan. While it had been published earlier, it was the titular story of Narayan's fourth collection of short stories published in 1947 by Indian Thought Publications. It was the first chapter of the world famous collection of stories Malgudi Days which was later telecasted on television in 2006.An Astrologer's Day click here for more information.
Here , I put the movie adaptation video ;
Let's , we can see some questions - answers :
Q.1 How faithful is the movie to the original short story?
The plot of the story and movie is almost same . Characters & themes are also same in the both story . But we can find some scenes & characters are not described in the original text .
Q. 2 After watching the movie, has your perception about the short story, characters or situations changed?
Yes, we can find some changes. Like , There is a his wife character that not much described in short story as well as movie.
When we compare the both story and film that time we can find one character of chutki who daughter of astrologer in short story but there is no mention of that kind of character in real short story.
Q. 3 Do you feel ‘aesthetic delight’ while watching the movie? If yes, exactly when did it happen? If not, can you explain with reasons?
Yes, I felt that delight while watching the movie. When he returns home after the meeting of gurunanayak and he felt that he did not murder. Luck by chance gurunanayak was allive. While talking of this incident with his wife we can see the comfortableness on his face.
Q.4 Does screening of movies help you in better understanding of the short story?
Yes, it is helpful for me . When we read the story that time , I find there is some kind of difficulty for understanding story but after the screening of movie I understand that whole the story in better and easy way. Than, concept of the story was totally clear in my mind .
Q.5 Was there any particular scene or moment in the story that you think was perfect?
According to me , the communication scene between an astrologer and Guru Nayak is as appropriate as in the story. The last ending of the story was perfect moment in the story .
Q.6 If you are a director, what changes would you like to make in the remaking of the movie based on the short story “An Astrologer’s Day” by R.K.Narayan?
As a director of the movie, I would like to change some scenes & characters also,
👉First , I have add some more characters in the story for create little bit long & intresting story.
👉Than , I have tried to change Astrologer's wife's character because in the story after knowing reality she can't speak anything . In my story i have tried to speak against him and ask many questions . Why you are not doing good job ? Why you are not spoken reality to people ? You are playing with their emotions. It is not good .
👉Murder scene present with more horrible elements & if possible I change murder place and timing also .
👉 I will try to expose the true reality of the astrologers with educated person at the end of the story .
.....Thank uhh.....
