Mordern short poems ;
Hello friends ,
Generally ‘wheelbarrow’ means a small cart with a single wheel at the front and two supporting legs and two handles at the rear, used typically for carrying loads in building work or grad. Here poets put the word separately which gives a different meaning. Barrow alone means an ancient burial mound. Again the words 'rain' and 'water' also symbolises positive and negative. The colours 'red' and 'white' are used in dual way. Thispoem difficult in understanding.This poem has completed into 8 lines.
This blog is for my task modernist poems.

Modernism, in the fine arts, a break with the past and the concurrent search for new forms of expression. Modernism fostered a period of experimentation in the arts from the late 19th to the mid-20th century, particularly in the years following World War I.
The movement reflected a desire for the creation of new forms of art, philosophy, and social organization which reflected the newly emerging industrial world, including features such as urbanization, new technologies, and war.

1.) ‘The Embankment‘ by T . E. Hulme
Once, in finesse of fiddles found I ecstasy,In the flash of gold heels on the hard pavement.Now see IThat warmth’s the very stuff of poesy.Oh, God, make smallThe old star-eaten blanket of the sky,That I may fold it round me and in comfort lie.
This poem has completed into 7 lines. According to my point of view In this poem has may be central thought is lust and falling of man. How any types of lust leads man towards the decayed. This types of addiction became man's life completely weak and dull. So that this types hopeless people prays to god for shelter. It means that here arise question of existence. Here I will add one more thing that in the poem may be that man wants to decide to die because he doesn't bear himself and may be he wants to hide himself everywhere. In the poem I found some key points and Symbols like as,
* Embankment:- Hopeless people
* Gold Heels :- Ambition, Prostitution
* Blanket :- Shelter, Hide, Protection
2.) "Darkness" by Joseph Campbel
"Darkness"
" I stop to watch a star shine in the boghole,
A star no longer, but a silver ribbon of light.
I look at it , and pass on."
In this poem the speaker takes the light as a metaphor. Light means a divine consciousness, positive power, the zeal to live life. While in this poem the poet experiences frustration.Theysee darkness. Darkness has been used as a metaphor for death, sickness and negativity. So the speaker may not like to see the lightning of the stars. But he wants more light than that. This means that they like the same light that gives the same light than the twinkling stars.Here I found some key points like as,
* Darkness :- Depression, Death, Negativity, Evilness, dullness
* Boghole :- Which can't sustains the weight because of the softness
* Silver Ribbon :- Mental illness
3)" Image " by Edward Storer
Upon strange pyres of loneliness and drought.
Forsaken lovers,
Burning to a chaste white moon,
Edward Storer was clearly influenced by Japanese form such as the haiku, This poem has completed into only 3 Lines also.According to my point of view in the short poem seems like as an image. We can't bind in one certain idea about any Image. but here may be the Image of Sorrowful condition and everything looks like varnished. I can imagine that situation is became like as land of desert with full moon light. There are somebody on pyre and due to the lake of love and everyone certainly has payed the price.

* Pyre :- Bad happening, Death, Drought,Loneliness
4) “In a station of the Metro” by Ezra pound
THE apparition of these faces in the crowd;
Petals on a wet, black bough.
This is very short modern poem written by Ezra pound. It is considered as a first haiku written in English.
In this poem, we can see the Paris metro station is taken as a metaphor. Because there is always a crowd at the railway station. Crowd means people and people means people's faces. People are running at the metro station. There is a lot of people not paying attention to each other, though. Because everyone is busy with their own work. So that loneliness is experienced among the crowd. The second image that arises is that the metro is always within the cities. Hence the busy life of the people of the city. City life can be portrayed as inanimate. The use of which is indicated by the black on the petal of the flower.Here I found some point like as,
* Apparition :- Ghost, Imagery
* Petals :- Flowers, Faces
* Black and Wet Bough :- After the rain

Are you alive?
I touch you.
You quiver like a sea-fish.
I cover you with my net.
What are you—banded one?
This poem title 'The pool' gives us an image of stored water. Water symbolizes purity and rebirth. Here water is in pool it's not flowing which symbolises the rottenness of the civilization.
This poem reflects the lifelessness in the people who are lost in the monotonous life like a ' fish caught in net'.

6.) "Insouciance" by Richard Aldington
In and out of the dreary trenches
Trudging cheerily under the stars
I make for myself little poems
Delicate as a flock of doves
They fly away like white-winged
Doves.
In this poem, the white-winged dove is a symbol of negligence. People at that time lived their lives carelessly and indefinitely. Because of the outbreak of World War II, people's hopes of survival were dashed. If he wanted to say something, if he wanted to express himself, he would try to express his feelings in literature. Modern culture came into the way of life. So there was more isolation among the people.This poem has completed into 5 lines only.
* Imagination & Metaphor:- Dreary Trenches, Flock of Doves, White winged dove
"Morning at the Window" by T.S.Eliot
They are rattling breakfast plates in basement kitchens,
And along the trampled edges of the street
I am aware of the damp souls of housemaid
Sprouting despondently at area gates.
The brown waves of fog toss up to me
Twisted faces from the bottom of the street,
And tear from a passer-by with muddy skirts
An aimless smile that hovers in the air
And vanishes along the level of the roofs.
This is a short poem written by T.S. Eliot .
In this poem context that may be lurk behind the poem's dark, Oppressive images of everyday life. It is an rhymed poem According to my opinion Speaker watched terrible sight out side from the window at early morning. He saw poor condition of his country and people Who lived on the pavement. They had not even enough food for eating and another side children played in mud. They have not good clothe. This poem has completed into 9 lines.

9) " Anecdote of the jar " by Wallace Stevens
I placed a jar in Tennessee,
And round it was, upon a hill.
It made the slovenly wilderness
Surround that hill.
The wilderness rose up to it,
And sprawled around, no longer wild.
The jar was round upon the ground
And tall and of a port in air.
It took dominion everywhere.
The jar was gray and bare.
It did not give of bird or bush,
Like nothing else in Tennessee.
This poem will be about a jar. It may be an allusion also.The 'Jar' symbolises the state which was a simple jar handled by any hand and later become independent. Poem can be seen as a small story of the ‘Jar’; the state of Tennessee.Here poet has good imagination. I think poet puts Jar on the hill. It was represented progress and beauty of nature.This poem has been completed into 12 lines.
* Jar :- Art,
* Bush :- Recreation, Wilderness

This poem appeared in 1958 in Cummings' collection 95 poems, so it's really a late modernist work. It was creative poem with imagination.
In this poem has a few lines but it's gives the feeling of loneliness. It's good idea about one single leaf fall on the ground which make poem very interesting.How a tree becomes barren when the last leaf falls, same is reflected here. Loss of hope can be also seen. In few words the poet has said so many things.
* leaf
* loneliness
